Becoming Thoughts, Dreams and Landscape, 2024, sediment and acrylic medium on sheets, dimensions variable, c. 2 x 6 m. Exhibition view Between 'Facelessness' and 'Facefullness' at The Recovery Plan. Curated by Rosa Sancarlo. Photo courtesy of TRP. Work made while at residence at the Kamene Cultural Center.
I worked with locally gathered sediments, transforming them into pigments applied onto used bed sheets from the Toi Market. Draped, folded, and suspended from ceiling to floor, the installation envelops the room in layered surfaces where traces of earth intermingle with fabrics once used for sleeping. Human figures, emerging from the folds, appear to rest and dissolve into the material, collapsing geological time with intimate memory. These surfaces become repositories of presence, carrying the histories of bodies and soils alike. Through this work, I reflect on matter’s continuous transformation into life, and life’s inevitable return into matter.
